Growing haworthias from seeds is done in the following steps:
Soil Preparation: Choose a light and well-draining soil suitable for succulents. You can use a special succulent mix or make a blend of equal parts of perlite, coconut coir, and pumice.
Container Selection: A suitable container for sowing should have good drainage. Make sure there are holes in the bottom of the container for water drainage.
Seed Sowing: Scatter the seeds on the soil surface. There’s no need to cover them with soil as they are very small. Sprinkle 1mm of sand on top. You can lightly press the seeds into the soil to ensure contact between them and the soil.
Watering: Gently spray the soil with water containing a fungicide using a sprayer. We use Previkur. Keep the soil lightly moist but not overly wet.
Covering the Container: To create a humid environment, you can cover the container with plastic wrap or glass. This will help retain moisture and warmth.
Placement and Lighting: Place the container in a warm area with bright but indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can burn young plants. Daytime temperatures should not exceed 25 degrees Celsius, while nighttime temperatures should be between 15-18 degrees Celsius.
Care After Germination: After the seeds germinate, which can take 1-4 weeks, remove the cover and continue to keep the soil lightly moist. Once the plants grow and become more established, you can reduce the frequency of watering.
By following these steps, you can successfully grow haworthias from seeds. In the photo are our seedlings after 3 weeks of sowing.
